A leading business group is stunned the Abbott government is even contemplating a double-dissolution election.
Reports suggest the government is looking to bring down its second budget in May and then quickly call a double-dissolution election, primarily to clear an obstructionist Senate.
"Right at the moment the government would have to have its head examined to go anywhere near the electorate," Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief Kate Carnell told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.
