Govt freezes Aussie jihadists' assets

Australia has frozen the assets of Islamic State fighters Khaled Sharrouf and Mohamed Elomar.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says it is important to starve terrorists of funds.

"We have been seizing the assets of those who have been seeking to promote or finance terrorism," she told the Seven Network.

The duo left Australia last year and are the first individuals added to the proscribed terrorist list.

There are warrants out for their arrest if they try to return to Australia.

More than 100 Australians are believed to have left the country to fight in the Middle East, with dozens known to be actively involved.
