Govt changes tune on charity regulator

The federal government has hinted it may abandon plans to scrap the national charity regulator.

Social Services Minister Scott Morrison has conceded government legislation that abolishes the Australian Charities and Not For Profits Commission lacks support in the Senate.

"There's strong sector support for the ACNC to continue, and I would say that that view is shared in particular in the parliament," he told a Canberra conference on Wednesday.
