Federal government appoints Simon Crean to parliamentary gig

The federal government has appointed former Labor stalwart Simon Crean to an Old Parliament House advisory group.
He was selected alongside former House of Representatives clerk Bernard Wright, constitutional monarchy campaigner Kerry Jones and academic John Hirst.

Mr Crean, a former Labor leader and frontbencher, ended his 23 years in politics after he called on Kevin Rudd to challenge Julia Gillard in a leadership spill in March 2013.
