Government will reportedly scrap marriage counselling scheme next week
Scott Morrison is expected to announce the end of the marriage counselling scheme today.
The government is expected to announce its taxpayer funded marriage counselling voucher scheme will be scrapped within days.
The $200 subsidy was introduced last year in an effort to reduce the county’s divorce rate, but critics have labelled it a “bad joke”.
New social services minister Scott Morrison will today announce that the Stronger Relationships trial will be scrapped on Monday February 9, News Corp reports.
“During the first seven months of the trial, which began on 1 July last year, only around 10,000 couples had registered for the scheme and only one third of these had gone on to attend a relationship education or counselling service,” Mr Morrison said.
The $17 million saved will be reinvested into frontline social services.
