Bali flights cancelled again as volcanic ash continues to wreak havoc

Virgin Australia and Jetstar have once again cancelled all its flights to and from Bali as a volcano continues to spout ash near Denpasar Airport.

After briefly reopening routes to and from Denpasar, the airlines today shut down its scheduled flights because volcanic ash from Mt Raung has begun blowing in an unfavourable direction.

Earlier today, more than 1000 stranded passengers returned to Australia from Bali.

Jetstar operated seven services after briefly resuming flights yesterday but has been forced to postpone all travel again. 

"While we regret the frustration these cancellations will cause, the safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority," the airline said in a statement. 

"We remain committed to operating additional services in and out of Bali when flying conditions allow it, to ensure we get our customers travelling again as soon as it is safe to do so."

Both airlines warned travellers they could still face delays as volcanic ash continued to threaten disruption.
