Rio Paralympics: Gold for Aussie women’s 4X100 freestyle team

The women’s 4X100 freestyle relay team have claimed a gold medal for Australia and broken a world record at the Rio Paralympics.
The team, Ellie Cole, Lakeisha Patterson, Maddison Elliot, and Ashleigh McConnell, won the final with a record-breaking time of 4.16.65.
They blitzed the US and China teams, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
“It’s so amazing…and now I’m a world-recorder holder with these lovely ladies,” McConnel said in a post-race interview posted by the Australian Paralympic Team.
“To be able to win it with three of your best friends…it’s really quite special,” Ms Patterson added.
The win echoes Australia’s success for the same event at the Rio Olympics last month.
