Police were called to the scene after a member of the public spotted a device near the tracks. (9NEWS) 

Tram services on the Gold Coast ground to a halt this morning after a member of the public spotted a suspicious item on the tracks, later revealed to be a tradesman’s monitoring device.

Services were suspended while police investigated the device, which had wires protruding from it and was seen under a bridge in Surfer’s Paradise around 10am.

The item was later revealed to be a device to monitor electrical currents on the tracks and was being used by a G:Link contractor.

The tram line resumed to normal service around 11am.
