Gold Coast power outage continues

A smoke-filled Gold Coast street was thrown into complete darkness on Wednesday night as an intense power surge sparked a house fire at Mermaid Beach.

The flood of electricity was too much for many homes to handle, with almost 200 blacked out.

Power is slowly being restored to homes tonight.
