Gold Coast MP Ray Stevens to support ‘Sky Rail’ project

Major plans have been unveiled for a "sky rail" on the Gold Coast – the biggest tourism project in the region since Movie World, complete with cable cars to take people up and above the picturesque hinterland.

Gold Coast MP Ray Stevens is an investor and an advisor partner in the sky rail project but he still sees no conflict of interest.

“I leave the government absolutely free to judge this visionary project for the Gold Coast and Queensland economy in an apolitical merit-based assessment,” he said.

But the move has been saved by the Opposition.

“Does he want to be a businessman or does he want to be a member of parliament?” Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk replied.

Premier Campbell Newman, who has criticised politicians for being both doctors and MPs, has no problem with ones who are also entrepreneurs.

“It will create jobs and I think he's been upfront with the way he's dealt with it,” he said.
