Man jailed after threatening mother with loaded gun

A man who threatened his mother with a loaded gun has been sentenced to eight years in jail.

Jesse Price, 23, pleaded guilty to 82 offences after sparking a police pursuit on the Gold Coast last November and cried in court as his sentence was handed down.

The court heard he was angry because he had found out a child he had cared for was not biologically his.

A witness told 9NEWS he became aggressive to his mother after she wouldn’t give him the keys to a car.

Price later reached speeds of more than 160 kmh through Pacific Pines and Oxenford carrying the loaded gun.

He fired the shotgun several times, and even pointed it at a 16-year-old girl, forcing her and the driver of the car she was travelling in to scramble from their vehicle.

Crown prosecutor Natalie Lima told the court Price’s offending was “persistent”.

“That was very confronting… he showed violence towards his own mother… and armed with a shot gun pointed it at young people to get out of their car."

The judge said he had some prospects for rehabilitation.

Price will be eligible for parole next February, having already spent 20 months and 25 days in jail.
