Gold Coast couple carjacked at knifepoint while picking up takeaway dinner

A couple has had their car stolen at knifepoint as they picked up their dinner from a Gold Coast restaurant.

Police say 32-year-old Adam Taylor carjacked the couple in Upper Coomera around 7pm last night when the pair declined to give him a lift.

Video obtained by 9NEWS showed the man harassing customers at a nearby service station before he approached them.

He later followed the couple into an Indian takeaway shop while wielding a large kitchen knife.

The woman ran to her car and pleaded with the attacker to let her take her pet dog from the back seat.

The dog was freed before the carjacker sped off in the couple’s car.

Police allege Mr Taylor drove to a property on Reserve Road, where he was arrested soon after.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and charged with multiple counts of armed robbery as well as unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was due to appear in court today.
