Glorious NSW weather on election day

Get out the cake mix and fire up the sausage sizzles - election day in NSW is going to be a beauty.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting sunny and pleasant weather across the state on Saturday, with more than five million eligible voters set to head to the ballot box.

Sydney and Wollongong will be a sunny 18 degrees, Newcastle fine and 17.

BOM meteorologist Simon Louis said New South Wales voters would experience a typically chilly winter's morning before conditions improved later in the day.

"It'll be a pretty frosty start to the morning and then get quite pleasant," he said.

"It will be a good day for sausage sizzles, actually."

Elsewhere, Lismore and Ballina on the state's north coast will be mostly sunny and 18 degrees, as will Port Macquarie on the mid north coast.

Inland, Armidale and Tamworth will be sunny while towns across the central tablelands such as Bathurst and Orange are expected to be cloudy with very cold starts.

Dubbo will be cloudy and 13, while Broken Hill in NSW's far west will be partly cloudy and 14.

Only southern inland areas such as Wagga Wagga and Albury are expected to experience rain, Mr Louis said.

It's 30 per cent likely in those towns, while Griffith will also be cloudy.

However the rainfall will not be heavy.
