A man has suffered large gashes around his eye in an alleged glassing on a crowded dance floor at a hotel in Sydney's southwest.

Police say two men had an altercation at the hotel in Camden at around 11.45pm last night.

"One of the men allegedly hit the other man in the head with a glass.

"The 26-year-old suffered large gashes above and below his left eye and superficial cuts to his face and nose," police said in a statement early today.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital.

Following the incident on the dance floor, security staff followed a man to a nearby intersection where he was pointed out to police and arrested.

A crime scene was established on the outside footpath and on the dance floor inside the hotel.

Police said "for various reasons" the hotel was closed and all patrons were removed after witnesses were identified.

The 26-year-old Campsie man was charged with malicious wounding and was granted conditional bail to appear before Picton Local Court on Tuesday.
