Today's bombshell ICAC hearing shook the NSW Government, so what's next?

Explosive testimony at today's ICAC hearing into corruption allegations against former MP Daryl Maguire shook the NSW Government today.

It was revealed NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian had a "close personal relationship" with the former Liberal member for Wagga Wagga, and texts and phone calls between the pair were made public.

Mr Maguire is due to face the same inquiry on Wednesday, so what happens next?

9News political reporter Chris O'Keefe said getting through today was the hardest part.

"Her supporters are betting on two things: the premier's professional record and her popularity with voters," he said.

"So, if Gladys Berejiklian doesn't resign, they will have to roll her and that's not going to happen yet.

"All are backing her for the time being.

"But this has a long way to run, especially as every single detail will be under the microscope."

9News state politics reporter Liz Daniels said the premier will "do what she always does when a crisis hits".

"She'll put her head down and go back to work," Daniels said.

"But if we've learnt anything from this extraordinary turn of events, it's that the corruption watchdog always keeps something up its sleeve.

"And come Wednesday, Daryl Maguire himself will be in the stand for two days of evidence.

"Who knows what we'll hear then."
