Girlfriend of missing Perth surfer Dean Lucas vows to finish his trip

The girlfriend of an Australian surfer feared dead in Mexico has vowed to "finish his surf trip off" after flying to the country to help identify him.

Josie Cox has flown to Mexico from her home in the Canadian city of Edmonton with dental records to try and help identify Dean Lucas, who was travelling in a camper van with friend Adam Coleman, who is also missing.

"Doing what he would have wanted, finishing his surf trip off. See you at the ocean," Ms Cox wrote on her Facebook page today.

In a post on Sunday, a devastated Ms Cox revealed she had discovered Mr Lucas was planning to propose to her.

Mr Coleman's girlfriend, Andrea Gomez, has also posted of her grief, sharing a video of Mr Coleman strumming a guitar while smiling and winking at the camera.

"You are a beautiful coincidence, you're a voice in my conscience, we are one," Ms Gomez wrote on her Facebook page.

The two 33-year-old men, originally from Golden Bay in Perth's south, were driving to Ms Gomez's home in Guadalajara on November 20, but did not arrive.

A senior Mexican government official has confirmed a burnt out van with two charred bodies inside was the vehicle driven by the missing men.

DNA testing on the two charred bodies found inside the van is continuing, with Ms Gomez giving police a dreadlock given to her by Mr Coleman to help with the identification process.

It is feared Mr Lucas and Mr Coleman were preyed on in the violence-riddled Sinaloa state where murders, violent robberies and kidnappings are common.
