Girl playing hide-and-seek before surviving 30m fall on Gold Coast

A four-year-old girl who survived falling almost 30m from a Gold Coast apartment was playing a game of hide-and-seek with her babysitter at the time.

The babysitter told police the pair was playing games when the girl, who was holidaying with her parents from Asia, plunged over the eighth-floor balcony of The Phoenician Resort at Broadbeach shortly after 11am yesterday, Nine News reports.

The girl escaped with a broken leg after landing on hedges on the pool deck below, cushioning her fall.

"I could see something and then a loud thud. I'm not sure if I was shocked or amazed," a witness, who did not wish to be identified, told Nine News.

"She crawled out, I couldn't believe it."

A couple sitting around the pool ran to assist the girl, who was reportedly dazed but did not cry.

She suffered a fractured leg and abdominal injuries and was being prepared for surgery last night.

Police continue to investigate the incident but said yesterday there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
