A girl was grabbed by a stranger while playing at Surf Beach in Kiama. Robert Peel

A girl playing hide-and-seek was grabbed by a strange man at Kiama, south of Sydney, yesterday.

At about 1pm on Sunday, the 11-year-old girl was playing behind the surf club at Surf Beach, when she was grabbed on the ankle by an unknown man who was in the bushes.

She kicked the man and ran away to tell her parents and lifeguards.

The man fled on foot towards Barney Street.

Police are investigating and would like to speak to a man who they believe could assist them.

He is described as being aged in his 20s, with short black hair, and was wearing a face mask, denim shorts, a black t-shirt and sunglasses with red tips on the arms.

Police would also like to speak to any potential witnesses who might have been in the area.
