Get behind Speaker Bishop: Pyne

Liberal frontbencher Christopher Pyne has called on coalition MPs to rally behind Speaker Bronwyn Bishop.

Mr Pyne said Mrs Bishop had admitted to her "misjudgment" over the use of a chartered helicopter to attend a Liberal party event last year and paid the expenses back.

"I'm certainly not going to jump on any bandwagon that is trying to remove Bronwyn Bishop from the speakership," he told Sky News.

"I'm standing strongly behind Bronwyn Bishop as Speaker and I'd call on all my colleagues to stand firm against the demands of the Labor party to remove the Speaker."

He said he had spoken with Mrs Bishop in recent weeks, describing her as a "woman of resolve".

"She is doing a very good job as Speaker and she retains my full support," he said.
