Georgina Bartter's best friend charged over ecstasy death

Police have charged one of Georgina Bartter's closest friends with supplying the ecstasy that killed the 19-year-old at a Sydney music festival last year.

Police will allege that Cammeray local Rebecca Hannibal, 19, bought a number of ecstasy tablets from Matthew Forti to take at the Harbourlife festival that took place on November 8.

Ms Hannibal, a former Werona student, allegedly then gave a number of the "purple speaker" pills to Ms Bartter, who died of a "one in 10 million" adverse reaction to the drug.

When Hannibal appeared in Downing Centre Local Court earlier this month, she pleaded not guilty to the single supply charge.

Fairfax was told by a source close to their group that the pair "were best friends."

Hannibal's arrest in December was not publicised because police were still investigating Forti.

He was arrested after a three-month investigation, just hours before he planned to go to the "A State of Trance" festival in Sydney last weekend, where another teen die of a suspected ecstasy overdose.

Forti was arrested on Saturday after police searched a house in the North Sydney suburb of Willoughby and charged with two counts of knowingly taking part in supplying a prohibited drug; police charge sheets state that Forti supplied the drugs in Cammeray, where Hannibal lives.

Friends and family remembered Ms Bartter as a vivacious, intelligent and beautiful young woman who had made a split-second lapse in judgment.

Forti will appear in court in March.
