Generous Victorian teacher offers $20k Hot Seat winnings to buy students new school shoes

A Victorian teacher, who snagged $20,000 on Millionaire Hot Seat, has used the winnings to provide all 200 of her students with new school shoes – with a little help from a successful local.

Yuille Park Community College  teacher Bri Dredge appeared on the program on July 16 and vowed to use whatever prize-money she won to buy new shoes for her pupils.

True to her word, she happily offered to donate the cash after she claimed the cash.

Aussie footwear company Blundstone heard about Ms Dredge’s kind move and provided the 200 pairs to keep the kids’ feet warm in winter.

To repay her generous offer, the iconic shoemaker donated the shoes for free, meaning Ms Dredge was able to keep all of her winnings.

Blundstone CEO Steve Gunn grew up just one block away from the Wendouree school.

Ms Dredge said every student at the primary school was given a pair of shoes.

“They’re so appreciative,” Ms Dredge told 9NEWS.

“All of them keep coming up to me and giving me big hugs.”

Host Eddie McGuire, who gently steered Ms Dredge in the right direction as she wavered on the fateful final question, said the teacher was a remarkable example for her students.

"I've been hosting Millionaire Hot Seat for many years now and when Bri came on the show I was immediately touched by her generosity of spirit, for her genuine love of her job, and I think teaching is the noblest of professions,” he said.

"Thank you for bringing us into your lives.

“Steve might have provided the shoes and I might have facilitated in some small way, but we both leave here a lot richer seeing all the kids smiling and to have met Bri."

Mr Gunn said he was more than happy to help out.

"Thank you to Bri who had this wonderful idea in the first place, it's great to have teachers like her,” he said.

“Good things really do come to good people.”
