Barwon Prison inmate critically injured after being 'stabbed several times'

A Geelong prisoner has been airlifted to hospital after being repeatedly stabbed inside Barwon Prison in Victoria's west.
Police believe one inmate assaulted another at the Lara correctional facility today.
The 47-year-old man was "stabbed several times" and flown to hospital in a critical condition.

Paramedics attended the scene about 1pm.
Ambulance Victoria told 9News the man was in a "serious condition with multiple injuries".
A Department of Justice and Community Safety spokesperson confirmed another incident had also occurred at neighbouring Marngoneet Prison, where a male prisoner was assaulted.
"Corrections Victoria can confirm an incident has occurred at Barwon Prison," the statement read.
"A 47-year-old male prisoner has been transported to hospital.
"In a separate and unrelated incident, a 32-year-old prisoner at Marngoneet Prison was transported to hospital.
"The safety of all staff and prisoners is paramount and both incidents will be referred to Victoria Police."
The investigation remains ongoing.
