Geelong Grammar's dark history of abuse

GEELONG GRAMMAR SCHOOL FACES ADVERSE FINDINGS OVER ITS HANDLING OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE INCLUDING:

* Culture valued the school's reputation over students' welfare

* School knew about allegation of improper conduct by live-in boarding house assistant Philippe Trutmann in 1985 and failed to act. Trutmann went on to sexually abuse 41 boys

* Trutmann should have been removed much earlier than 1996; if he had, at least some of his victims would not have been abused

* Appalling failure in expelling boarder and not investigating his complaint

* Put its financial interests ahead of former student's in failing to disclose during settlement negotiations what it knew about emergency teacher BIM (previously sacked for inappropriate conduct; spent time in jail on pedophilia charge)

* 1980-1994 headmaster John Lewis did not treat child sex abuse seriously and put school's reputation ahead of students' interests

* If Lewis had investigated allegations, a number of students would not have been abused.
