Narrow escape: elderly couple almost poisoned by car fumes

An elderly couple have narrowly avoided being poisoned after they left their car running in their garage for 11 hours.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was alerted to the danger after she noticed a strange smell in her home in Sydney’s north.

Emergency crews were called to the Beecroft property just after 10pm.

Crews investigated and discovered a Toyota Yaris had been running inside the garage since 11 o'clock that morning and the fumes were filtering into the house.

Her husband, also in his 70s, was taken to hospital for checks.
