'It would be easier if he died': Gammy's adult sister

The adult daughter of baby Gammy's biological father has revealed that she lied when she said he believed the infant had died in Thailand.

Jane Farnell told the Bunbury Mail that she was to blame for the confusion over what happened to Gammy when the story first broke, as criticism over David and Wendy Farnell's 60 Minutes interview shows no sign of abating.

"My parents never said Gammy had died, that came from me," she told the newspaper.

"The only reason I told my friends that he had died was that it was easier than dragging them into all the confusion.

"I thought it would be easier to say he had passed away and then have to explain it later on if he came home."

Ms Farnell, who is expecting her first child, said she considered herself to be "one of the luckiest people in the world" to have grown up with a loving father.

She said her new sister Pipah was happy and healthy and that their family hoped she would soon be reunited with her brother, Gammy.

"Wendy was born to be a mother," she said.

The couple had been trying to fall pregnant for almost the entire length of their 10-year marriage when they found out surrogate mother Pattaramon Janbua was pregnant with twins.

But their excitement soon turned to panic when they travelled to Thailand and found out they had no rights to the children.

With Ms Pattaramon allegedly unwilling to release both children, the "broken" couple returned to Australia to "make sure (Pipah) was safe", Ms Farnell said.

She said her father's child sex convictions in the early 1990s had rocked her family, but she believed he would not reoffend.

"I believe in the system – they wouldn’t have let him out or let him see me again if they thought he was a risk," Ms Farnell said.

The Bunbury Mail reports several family friends have contacted the newspaper to throw their support behind the Farnells.
