Friends and family pay ‘tribute’ to man killed in crash with cemetery burnouts

The friends and family of a 19-year-old killed in a car crash in Albury have been condemned for performing burnouts in the cemetery.

Shaun Crighton died on September 4 when he crashed a stolen utility into a tree in the southern New South Wales town, reports local media.

He was laid to rest in Albury on Saturday and at the end of the service several cars performed burnouts.

The stunt was filmed and later posted online.

Burnouts have also been performed at the scene of Mr Crighton's fatal car crash.

Albury Mayor has slammed the behaviour as "very poor".

Lester and Sons Funeral Directors said they were unware the burnouts were planned.

"We would never condone that anywhere,” owner Darren Eddy told The Northern Daily Leader. “A cemetery is not an appropriate place."

He called the behaviour "reckless" and a "slight" on community effort's to send a message that reckless driving causes accidents.

Mr Crighton's family have defended the stunt, claiming it was something he loved and wasn't meant to be disrespectful.
