France can be trusted with secrets: Berry

The United States is confident France can keep core military secrets following the leak of secret details of the French Scorpene submarine, US Ambassador John Berry says.

Mr Berry said France was one of the US' oldest allies, with a long and trusted relationship and a fully engaged military relationship.

But he said protecting secrets and cybersecurity were issues everyone wrestled with and they would be discussed at special Australia-US talks in Washington next month.
