Forrest review feasibility expected soon

A taskforce analysing the Forrest review of indigenous employment is expected to report soon on its recommendations, which include Australia-wide income management.

The government established a feasibility taskforce following the release of Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest's wide-ranging and controversial review - which recommended a welfare card for 2.5 million Australians.

Mr Forrest wants certain products including alcohol and cigarettes banned on the card.

The inter-departmental feasibility taskforce includes representatives from indigenous affairs, social services and employment.

The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet revealed during Senate estimates on Friday that the study would be completed shortly and presented to government for consideration.

However, the department wouldn't reveal an exact date, saying there was no specified timeline.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says he will consider all recommendations of the Forrest review but has also said the government has no plans to implement such sweeping welfare changes just yet.
