Former Qld premier's warning for PM

Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman believes new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will have a hard time steering clear of catchy slogans in order to thoroughly explain policy.

Mr Newman, who spectacularly lost the Queensland election in 2014, feels "very sad" that Tony Abbott - a decent man of integrity - lost the prime ministership to Mr Turnbull two weeks ago.

Despite Mr Turnbull's declaration he would not resort to slogans, Mr Newman said there were already signs the public didn't want to hear his lengthy explanations, he told ABC television
