Former Queensland education chief faces nepotism claims

The former head of Queensland's education department has appeared in court charged with misconduct over the hiring of departmental staff.
Former Education Queensland director-general Julie Grantham, 59, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with misconduct in relation to public office.
Grantham and the department's southeast region boss Glenn Hoppner, 60, were charged last month following a 2012 Crime and Corruption Commission investigation into allegations of nepotism at a government-owned sports centre on the Gold Coast.
Grantham did not enter a plea.
She was granted bail and her case was adjourned until December 8.
The former bureaucrat resigned from her post two years ago, shortly before allegations against her were made public.
Hoppner, who has been stood aside from his role, appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court last week.
