Former cricket player Stuart MacGill denies stalking, intimidating Sydney bar owner

Former Australian cricket player Stuart MacGill has denied stalking and intimidating a Sydney bar owner, the sportsman instead arguing he is the victim.

MacGill faced court on Thursday after being charged with stalking, intimidating and using offensive language towards Samantha Ford, his best mate's former fiance and the owner of Argyle Bar in Millers Point.

The alleged incident occurred in February when MacGill was with his friend Stephen Kerlin and they crossed paths with Ford outside the Lord Nelson Hotel.

It's alleged they subjected Ford to a "verbal attack" before she followed them into the nearby Captain Cook Hotel.

Both encounters were captured on CCTV, which was played before Magistrate Christine Haskett.

A witness, Tony Ryder, told the court the two men were extremely intoxicated.He claimed Kerlin was screaming "you're a horrible person, you're a horrible person" at the woman before MacGill joined in.

"He assisted in berating the woman ... he was leaning over ... he was aggressive towards her," Ryder told the court.

In a police interview, MacGill argued he was the victim and suggested the complaint was the escalation of an issue he'd raised about Ford a few weeks earlier.

"I am very intimidated by this woman because clearly she has some power that I don't have," MacGill says in the interview.

"She has followed us. She has stalked us for over 12 months and I do think that she is insane."

Kerlin pleaded guilty to two offences and will be sentenced in August.

MacGill is defending charges against him and his matter has been adjourned until January, when a magistrate will hear from more witnesses to the pub clash.

Last year MacGill was allegedly kidnapped, beaten and dumped on the side of the road, which is unrelated to Thursday's court proceedings.
