Former cop pleads not guilty to assault

A former West Australian police officer has pleaded not guilty to assaulting two detainees at the Broome police station in the state's Kimberley region.

The alleged offences took place in March and April 2013 and were investigated by the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC).

The former first class constable, whose identity has been suppressed, faced the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday charged with one count of common assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm in relation to his alleged treatment of the two people.

Magistrate Andrew Maughan also granted an application to suppress the identity of the alleged victims.

The case was adjourned until July 21.

The conduct of officers at the Broome police station was investigated by the CCC last year, including a week of public hearings in June.
