Army major charged over wife’s death in central Victoria

An army major has been charged with murder after his wife was found dead at a home in central Victoria.
Police were called to a Wallan home around 11.30am on Sunday where the body of a woman in her fifties was found.
David Whitelegg has since been charged with one count of murder.
Mr Whitelegg has served in both the Australian and British armed forces.
It is understood he left the British Army five years ago.
The 53-year-old made no application for bail and has been remanded to reappear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court in March next year.
Some neighbours claimed Mr Whitelegg had exhibited worrying behaviour in recent months while others said the pair were a lovely couple and saw no trouble.
Anne Whitelegg had been a nurse at LaTrobe Private Hospital but lost her job when in closed last month, News Corp reported.
