Food labels to be consumer tested

The federal government will start road-testing new labels to better indicate where food comes from.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane told parliament on Monday his department had contracted a company to conduct market research and consumer testing before finalising new labelling laws.

"In the end, the most important thing about food labelling is the consumers know the country of origin that the food they are consuming is coming from," he said.
