New vaccine offering protection against four flu strains available in Australia
A new flu vaccine offering protection against four strains of the virus is now available in Australia.
The high dose influenza vaccine, called Fluzone, has four times the antigens of a standard vaccine and covers four different strains.
It is available via prescription to people over the age of 60 for $65.

It comes as health officials are warning of a potentially severe and unpredictable virus season this winter.

David Briggs, 63, is one of the first patients in Australia to roll up his sleeve for the new vaccine. 9News
"I'm particularly concerned that this year will be severe," Professor Paul Van Buynder from Griffith University said.

There is likely to be a resurgence of the flu after pandemic lockdowns kept infections at bay, resulting in low herd immunity. Australia is also still battling rising COVID-19 cases.
