Tasmania's doctors are warning the state's hospitals may not be able to cope with added demand on services as flu season approaches.

The state's Australian Medical Association president Tim Greenaway raised concerns on Monday citing recent figures from the Royal Hobart Hospital, which has already been overloaded at busy times including Easter.

"Tasmania simply does not have adequate capacity in its major public hospitals which are already operating over capacity when there is a mildly busy period," he said.
