Flu jabs now at SA pharmacies

Flu jabs are now available at more than 50 South Australian pharmacies as the state government seeks to avoid another record-breaking year for the virus.

Last year there were more than 11,000 confirmed flu cases in SA and Health Minister Jack Snelling says to avoid that happening again people should get vaccinated.

To make it easier the government will allow pharmacies to administer the jabs and so far 52 have completed the necessary training.

Mr Snelling says allowing pharmacies to offer the vaccine is expected to encourage a greater uptake especially among people who feel they don't have time to visit a doctor.

"Every year thousands of South Australians are struck down with the flu, even though it's an illness which can be easily prevented with a simple vaccination," Mr Snelling said on Tuesday.
