Boxer, serial woman-beater Floyd Mayweather’s visa bid for Aussie tour ‘rejected’

Boxer Floyd Mayweather's promotional tour of Australia will have to be cancelled after the government reportedly rejected his visa application over his history of violence against women.

The two-day tour, which was scheduled to include a series of nightclub and dinner apperances, was set to take place tomorrow and Friday.

However, publicist Max Markson issued a press release today saying the tour had been "postponed" without providing any new dates.

Assistant Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash said the government had refused to grant Mayweather a visa, News Corp has reported.

The boxer, regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, has a history of family violence.

Mayweather has a number of convictions for domestic assault and attacks on several women, and served time in jail for attacking a former partner in front of their children.

Anti-domestic violence campaigners protested the boxer's impending visit.

Mayweather had offered to donate money from his tour to homeless people and indigenous children.

It is the second high-profile case in recent months of the government standing by its "good character" clause for celebrity visa applicants.

In November 2014, then-Immigration Minister Scott Morrison cancelled "pick-up artist" Julien Blanc's visa after protesters claimed his seminars promoted sexual assault, such as advising men to grab women by the neck.
