Flood warning issued for Adelaide Hills as rainfall continues

A flood watch has been issued for the Adelaide Hills with more rain set to fall on areas hit by a deluge just days ago.

Up to 30mm of rain is expected to fall today which could cause rivers across the hills to rise, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) warned.

“We have a flood watch in place for Mt Lofty Ranges and the mid-north and north-east pastorals,” Robert Charlton from the SES said.

All 67 of Adelaide’s SES crews are on standby.

They have also made 5000 sandbags available to residents at 11 locations across the state.

On Wednesday more than 100mm of rain fell in some parts of the Mt Lofty Ranges causing flooding across a wide area.

About 80 homes were damaged along with a number of roads, with the bill expected to run into millions of dollars.

SES Chief Officer Chris Beattie says people should take care in the hills with the damage that has already occurred and the rain to come presenting a real danger.

"In many locations, SES crews have found creek banks that have been undermined and seriously compromised by the high water levels from the heavy rains earlier this week," Mr Beattie said.

BoM is also forecasting more rainfalls across the hills on early next week, but only about 10mm.
