RSPCA 'overwhelmed' by horse cruelty reports in South Australia

More than a dozen neglected horses have been seized by the RSPCA from South Australian properties and are receiving urgent treatment.
The RSPCA SA says it has been flooded with reports of cruelty against horses in recent weeks and has seized 15 of the animals suffering from conditions like malnutrition, emaciation, overgrown hooves and infected eyes.
Chief Inspector Andrea Lewis says it will cost more than $30,000 for vets to treat the animals, which include young horses and a pregnant mare.
"To have this number of horses come into our care at once puts a large strain on our resources," she said in a statement.
"But we will always do whatever we can treat and care for animals, and create the best outcomes possible for them."
The RSPCA is appealing to the public for the funds needed for the horses' care and has already received more than $6000 in donations.
It says 70 people have so far offered to provide the horses with foster care.
