Two injured in Flinders St tram line crash

Emergency crews were called to Flinders Street in Melbourne's CBD after a car crashed on to the tram line this morning.

Of the three people involved in the crash, two people in one of the vehicles were trapped for about 20 minutes..

Police have told 9NEWS the pair were conscious and breathing but suffered broken bones.

The man aged in his 20s has head and chest injuries and was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

The woman in her 30s has facial injuries and was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

The scene has been cleared and authorities are investigating.
