Flight woes continue for Bali tourists due to rising ash cloud

Mt Rinjani on Lombok Island has been spewing ash since early last week. 

Flights in Bali will be affected for several more days, due to an ash cloud blowing towards Bali from Mt Rinjani, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

Jetstar has cancelled all Thursday flights to and from Bali as well as some flights on Friday morning. The airline is expected to make an assessment on the remaining Friday flights tonight.

Virgin Australia is cancelling all flights due to depart Australia and Bali today and tomorrow. The airline will tomorrow issue an update on flights departing on Saturday, pending information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre.

Denpasar airport is set to remain closed until Friday at 8.45am local time due to unsafe flying conditions.

The edge of the ash cloud is now hovering near the airport.
