First Australian to give birth to quadruplets celebrates 100th birthday

The first Australian woman to give birth to quadruplets has reached another incredible milestone.

Seventy years after Betty Sara first hit international headlines, she has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Betty and her husband Percy were living on Bellingen on the NSW mid-north coast when their family of three became seven.

The pair met in London and already had a son when they naturally conceived the quadruplets — Alison, Philip, Judith and Mark.

Their lives became a fascination to many and their birthdays, Christmases and daily life were documented in local and international media.

When asked how she was feeling on her 100th birthday, Betty replied: "about the same as yesterday".

She had a small in-person celebration and was joined by other family members virtually.

Betty has nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

"There is only one word that sums it up and that is amazing. Absolutely amazing," daughter Alison said.

"She is a lady, has always been dignified and is very caring."

The 100-year-old revealed how she has lived such a long and full life: "Good living and a little bit of naughtiness."
