Firefighters rescue Mal Meninga's son from stadium toilet

Firefighters had to use a sledgehammer to rescue the son of rugby league legend Mal Meninga after the 28-year-old became stuck in a stadium toilet.

Joshua Meninga was in a corporate suite at Hong Kong Stadium during the Rugby Sevens on April 9 when he took himself to the bathroom, the Daily Telegraph reports.

But his friends called emergency services when they could not get a response from Meninga.

Unable to open the door conventionally, firefighters smashed their way through with axes and sledgehammers to find a heavily intoxicated Meninga.

"To be fair, he probably wasn’t the drunkest bloke there," a witness said.

The onlooker said the rescue took place mid-afternoon at the event and that alcohol was on offer for free in the corporate suite.

Meninga currently works as a coach and player for the Hong Kong Rugby Union.

The Hong Kong leg of the Sevens tournament was won by Fiji the next day.
