More than 20 fire crew teams have managed to bring a grassfire burning in Melbourne’s north-west under control.

Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) crews attended the blaze about 5pm yesterday afternoon near Tarletons Road in Plumpton.

Two aircraft and more than 20 ground crews fought to contain the blaze.

"I literally looked up and thought my shed was on fire," a resident told 9NEWS.

Earlier, CFA District 14 Operations Officer Shane Bailey said due to an expected rise in temperatures and fire risk, aircraft would continue working on the blaze.

The Arson Squad is treating the fire as suspicious, and analysed three scenes this morning.

Temperatures in Melbourne reached up to 36 degrees today.

Warracknabeal and Mildura reached 40 degrees.
