Fire near Canberra under control
Firefighters have brought a bushfire near Canberra under control after it burned almost 3400 hectares and destroyed at least one home.
A cool change and some rain overnight helped firefighters to hold the fire near Tarago, NSW, to the western side of Goulburn Rd between Boro Road and Barnet Drive, the NSW Rural Fire Service said on Thursday morning.
Goulburn Road and the railway between Queanbeyan and Goulburn are still closed.
The RFS says residents in the Mount Fairy and Boro areas should continue to monitor the situation and follow directions of firefighters on the ground.
Farmers on Wednesday were moving livestock and horses to safety as water bombing helicopters and firefighters battled the blaze.

* Residents who need to relocate horses from the area can take them to Goulburn Showground.
