House gutted by fire in Melbourne's north

A fierce blaze has gutted a family home in Lalor in Melbourne’s north overnight.

A number of calls were made to emergency services just before 8pm on last night, with reports the brick home on Griffin Court was alight with flames coming from the roof and windows.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and conducted a search of the property confirming no one was home, before being forced out due to the ferocity of the fire.

While the cause of the blaze remains unknown, the fire is being treated as suspicious. Arson squad detectives are expected to arrive on the scene shortly. 

It is believed the homeowners are a family, who were out of town for night.

They are expected to return this morning.
