A Sydney family has been left with nothing after a fierce blaze gutted their home in the city’s west.

Fire investigators believe the fire started inside the two-level Cabramatta home at about 3am.

Three adjacent homes had to be evacuated as house ignited, with the roof and top floor collapsing.

Despite the fact the home had no working smoke alarms, the Smith family managed to clamber out of the burning building.

Ian Smith said he yelled at his wife, Heidi, to run and then grabbed his son from bed. The family pets didn’t make it out.

“Basically everything has gone,” Mr Smith said.

“It’ll take a while to build up.

“At the moment I’m more worried about my daughter come back and finding it, because it will be a total shock to her.”

He said family heirlooms, photo albums and other irreplaceable items have been destroyed.

While the home is insured, Mr Smith has begged the community to help.

“If anyone can help at least giving my kids something, my eight-year-old and 10-year-old girl,” he said.
