Fire at Victoria's The Alfred hospital

Some patients and staff had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at a Melbourne hospital.

The small fire was confined to one room on the first floor of The Alfred, with patients and staff moved to another area of the hospital.

The rest of the hospital was not affected by Friday morning's fire despite extra firefighters being brought in to help disperse the smoke.

The damage from the fire and smoke is less than $5000, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said.
