Hydroponic drug setup uncovered after shop fire in Sydney's west

Police are investigating after a hydroponic setup was discovered during a fire at a Fairfield shop last night.

Firefighters evacuated the two-storey building at The Crescent near the intersection of Vine Street shortly before 8.30pm, using a cherrypicker to battle the blaze which was threatening nearby restaurants.

More than 30 firefighters battled the fire, extinguishing it by about 11pm.

While assessing the damage to the shop caused by the fire, investigators found what is believed to be a hydroponic setup used for growing cannabis.

Police are still at the scene removing the plants from the shop.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
